Quatech USB to RS-232 Serial Adapters
Mark: Very good All existing OS/2 users can now take advantage of Quatech's robust USB to Serial technology to leverage existing serial peripherals in newer PC and Thin Client systems.
Quatech Inc., one of the world's leading manufacturers of data connectivity products, announced that its entire line of USB to RS-232 Serial Adapters is now supported under OS/2. The new driver is part of the latest OS/2 Device Driver Pack, and is available to all current IBM (NYSE:IBM) Software Choice subscribers.
"Quatech has a long-standing relationship with the IBM development team," says Steve Runkel, Quatech's President and CEO. "Our serial connectivity products were available with OS/2 support when that operating system was first released over 15 years ago, and we continue that support today. We are very pleased that IBM has chosen Quatech USB serial adapters to be the first and only ones supported in their current OS/2 driver package."
Quatech USB serial adapters allow legacy serial devices such as scanners, bar-code readers, printers, touch-screens, modems, card-readers, etc. to be used in new systems via the USB port just as they were used in previous systems employing older bus standards. This capability is particularly useful in a wide variety of industries such as banking, retail, hospitality, and industrial automation where PCs have significantly shorter lifecycles than the peripherals used with them.
Quatech USB to RS-232 serial adapters are available with 1, 2, 4, 8 or 16 ports, and offer many industry-leading features and unmatched reliability. They provide a seamless transition from traditional port systems; appearing as standard serial COM ports means no changes to software applications are required. They offer baud rates to 460.8 kbps (3 times faster than standard ports) and the only surge suppression package available for USB. All units, including our robust 8-port and 16-port models, are bus powered. In addition to OS/2, the adapters are supported under Windows 98/NT/Me/2000/XP and Sun Ray Server Software.
List prices for Quatech USB serial adapters start at $79. For more information and detailed product specifications, see www.quatech.com. To discuss your application with a sales engineer, call 800-553-1170 or e-mail sales@quatech.com.
