The april was dedicated to debugging of existing software and preparation of new products.

Software updates:

  • Personal cards manager, several internal betas

  • MMImage Pack (dosenz of image I/O procs), internal beta

  • ACPI temperature monitor, we should remake it in form of eCenter widget
• Updated drivers:
  • JFS.IFS -- researching compatibility with 4OS2. New beta-versions are distributed via eComStation beta-zone
  • Power management driver for eComStation via ACPI, internal beta-versions (searching for investors)
  • Added support of Realtek RTL8168 network adapter to the driver of Yanagihara Nobuyuki
• Updated toolkits and libraries:
  • ACPI toolkit - new examples which allow you catch ACPI events (requires ACPI.PSD 2.7)
  • ECOMEDIA library, internal beta-version; collection of high-level functions which simplify usage of multimedia I/O procedures for reading and writing of image files.
• Collaboration with other developers and companies:
  • Dmitry Frolov (aka froloff) answered to our questions and described how to use USBCALLS library and control USB toys (russian text)
  • the next version of eComStation/Rus will include Doodle screensaver and improved installation of eWorkPlace.

Miscellaneous news:

• eCo Software strategy
  • The strategy of eCo Software states that we should create more WPS applications to attract new users and students. To stimulate the process, we are starting publication of tutorial "Object-Oriented Programming in eComStation, Part 1: Introduction" (russian text)
• Participation in Developers Workshop 2006 -- eCo Software developers prepared and presented three reports:
  • Library for easy multilanguage support (we compared existing meanings and suggested methods how to improve things)
  • How to join eComStation development (You can join ACPI and Power management projects, we need better support of USB devices, pay attention to FM-tuners if going to create multimedia software, let's create syncronization modules of mobile devices with the database of Personal Cards Manager)
  • Using eComStation infrastructure for development of new applications (We must create more WPS applications; We must use MMOS2 I/O procedures to shorten the life cycle of multimedia software development)
  • WiZard constructed logo for Developers Workshop 2006
  • Presentations are published at netlabs.org ftp
• Financial 2005 year is completed
  • the previous financial year is finished. Taxes was paid in all countries where our developers are working.
  • eCo Software is planning continue investments into futher development of existing drivers and applications (auxiliary applications may be create if needed)
  • We should pay special attention to work of our support service and delivery service.
• How to help to eCo Software:
  • translate eSchemes to your language
  • if you are a registered customer of SciTech SNAP, request the company support ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 adapter. Else we have troubles with notebooks used in power management project.

Reward for Perl porting

The second edition of OS/2 API Research book

The book should prove to be a valuable reference as well as an informative tutorial for Control Program and Presentation Manager programming.

The book answers to questions: Why we use OS/2? Why competitors always bury OS/2? What is the future of OS/2? etc.

Whatsnew: Initial chapters was updated (multithreading, memory, queues, PIPE-connections, file systems, etc). Updates in chapters related to window shell. Updated chapter related to TCP/IP protocols. The list of literature is updated too.

OS/2 API Research book is available from hobbes (Author: Sergey Posokhov; Language: Russian).

Possibilities of USBCALLS library

Dmitry Frolov talks how to use famous USBCALLS library to control USB devices from Ring3 applications (russian text). You can create your own applications for "USB-toys" even today!

Beta version of MySQL v5.0.19 now available

I've uploaded a test version of MySQL v5.0.19 to ports page.

Release Notes:

• no DLL is currently provided - so all client utilities are much larger executables than those found in Yuri's MySQL v4.1.7
• no libs\*, include\* are provided to reduce the package size - these are available on request
• built with libc06 CSD1 so libc061.dll is required
• this has currently had very limited testing - but it is running now on my server and being used successfully with my build of PHP 4.4.2
• All bug reports should be submitted via the bug tracker

Users of MySQL v4.1.7 can simply copy their data directory from the mysql41\data directory to mysql5\data and restart with the new mysqld.exe and it should work fine.

A *big* thanks to Yuri Dario who provided his patches for MySQL 4.1.7 which were the basis for this updated port. You can checkout (and support) Yuri's efforts via his website at http://www.os2power.com/yuri

NetDrive for OS/2 3.0.3

Blueprint Software Works has updated NetDrive for OS/2, a virtual file system, that allows seamless access to FTP, NFS, VFAT and other resources.

The new version 3.0.3 includes updated FTP plugin and a new utility, that allows one to view FTP messages and the FTP server replies.

The FTP plugin new features are:

• file name translation between local system codepage and the codepage which is used by the remote server.
• ASCII transfer mode for specified file types (html, htm, txt).

Please download and install the new version if you are using NetDrive for OS/2 3.x.
