The long awaited eComStation democd has been released some weeks ago.
You can grab it at http://www.ecomstation.com/democd
See website for details. An official press lease will follow later. If you do not want to download it you can also purchase a CD.
Russian demo-CD is available too! The demo CD will also be published in more languages.
Feedback from users:
- It's great, I missed my old OS/2 sooo much!
- Just downloaded the demo CD to try for myself before lending it out. Works well (so far) on an HP Pavilion ZD7000. Thanks
- Even configured dsl automatically. Not surprisingly, it looks a lot like OS/2
- It picked up the NIC automatically. I haven't played with it much, but it looks Great so far!
- Visually it is a wast improvement compared to Warp3, the last OS/2 release I've regularly used, years ago. Thanks for providing this interesting demo of what it's like today!
- I am trying the Demo CD on my daughter's Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop PC, after seeing it yesterday on an IBM Thinkpad T42 at the monthly SCOUG (So Cal OS/2 Users' Group) meeting. With no fanfare or problems, the machine booted right up, played the Flash presentation with sound, showed a clear screen, and connected to the Internet. I plan to make a few copies of the Demo CD to hand to my Windows using friends. Maybe it will open their eyes to other possibilities!
- The demo CD works with my GeForce5900XT, well done! I'm seriously debating getting the full release! Thanks again!
- This is surprisingly good for a less known operating system.
- Absolutely awesome! Runs like hell on my ThinkPad T22 - now the only thing I need are drivers for my WLAN-Card (Netgear WG511T) ;-) Seriously it's good to see that OS/2 is still alive and kicking and I'm seriously thinking about getting myself eComStation 1.2 (German) now :-)
- Very smooth install, I love it! I will be making copies and handing them out!
- Not a bad effort. Booted off the CD and I was presented with the ESC desktop. ECS detected my DHCP server without and problems [reltek 8139 nic], alas Firefox locks the computer as tight as a drum. CAD to reboot. I have a USB mouse that worked OK, Sound OK [SB live] Nivdia FX5900 Ultra, Nforce2 chipset, 1.5gig RAM I'm going to try it on some Sony VAIO laptops. I service Sony VAIO laptops for Sony under warranty so I have access to the latest hardware to try it on.Not a bad effort. Booted off the CD and I was presented with the ESC desktop. Whatsnew:
OS/2 (eComStation) is alive while people are using and improving the system. The developers of solutions ensure long life for our operating system because computers with OS/2 make money for their customers year by year. The developers bring new industrial technologies to OS/2, feed support service, fill OS/2 with unique features to keep the solutions competitive.
Examples of solutions based on OS/2: ATM, sound processing (speech, digital restoration of sound), training devices (astronauts, oilmen), technical appliances (measuring, medical), virtual machines (mainframes, SVISTA), CMMS, restaurants, etc.
Why should you write the story today?
- You should do this to protect your investments made into OS/2 platform.
- OS/2 users are located in different countries and cities. They will read the story because of OS/2 word :) And spread the information about your company and products among own colleagues.
- The developer of the operating system will get information about your requirements and improve OS to satisfy them.
- Your story gives stimulus to thousands of users, developers and companies.
- It's easy. Solution story is based on usual product flyer.
Where to collect solutions? www.ecomstation.ru site is hosting Solutions list since 2002. Now it contains texts on russian language only but you can publish german, dutch, english texts there.

Effective date: November 4, 2005
To better support the desktop requirements of eComStation and IBM OS/2 users, Serenity Systems International is announcing the availability of 12 month support agreement for OpenOffice.org. As part of the support agreement, users will receive versions of OpenOffice.org developed and tested to run on eComStation and IBM OS/2.
Initially, users will be able to download OpenOffice.org Version 1.1.5, significant update over the current 1.1.4 version. Key features of 1.1.5 include support for OASIS file formats, as well as fixes listed at release notes page.
Support for OASIS file formats provides OpenOffice.org 1.1.5 users with the ability to exchange documents with wide variety of other products, including the recently released OpenOffice.org Version 2. eComStation and IBM OS/2 users can expect full OpenOffice.org Version 2 support in 1Q06, possibly beginning testing before the end of 2005.
Fixes and updates will be delivered over the term of the agreement as part of the on-going support. For example, the initial support for OpenOffice.org Version 2 will not include WorkPlace Shell (WPS) integration. Plans call for WPS integration to be supported in one of the first updates for 2.0. As implied by this statement regarding WPS integration support, the Version 2 product supplied under this agreement will be native OS/2 application.
The Suggested Retail Price of the Support Agreement is $49US for 12 months. Registered users of the current OpenOffice.org product for eComStation and IBM OS/2 will be able to purchase the Support Agreement for $29US. See http://www.ecomstation.com/openoffice
